I put in my two weeks notice without another job

Today, March 25th, I put in my two weeks notice at work. I am nervous and scared but most of all excited because I know that there is something greater out there for me.

My job has been amazing in regards to the people I work with, the benefits (salary and 401k match), and professional development opportunities (Toastmasters). However, the job or work I do is not where I see myself long-term and I feel that I am holding myself back if I stay in this position. Lately, every morning I dread getting out of bed and I am afraid it’s starting to show in my work.

Next steps

I am taking a leap of faith and quitting my job without another one lined up. I will be living off of my emergency fund and plan to get a part-time job to supplement that until I find a job I enjoy.

I will be intentional on this job search. I am holding myself responsible for not taking the first job I am offered just because. I am really focusing on choosing a company I am interested in and can grow with. If I am being honest though, I can feel my natural instinct kicking in and me just wanting to get another job as quickly as can so I don’t have to wonder where my next paycheck is coming from.

Currently, I am looking at recruiter positions because I enjoy speaking with people and this type of role will give me that and more autonomy and independence in the work I do. I have also been looking into some sales positions with companies that I believe in.

My ideal job requirements:

  • Hyrbid or in-person (remote is okay but I need some human interaction; if remote would have to be able to work from coffee shop or something)
  • $60,000 (desirable) but I am willing to compromise for a job that I enjoy
  • Generous PTO (1 1/2 vacation days a month)
  • Amazing team culture and personal development opportunities(supportive, mentoring)
  • No start-ups (wants longevity)

Feelings immediately after putting in two notice

Excited but scared and nervous. Regret because now I have no money coming in and bills to pay. I am excited because I am going to take the steps to create a life I love from the bottom up.

Feelings one week after putting in two notice

I feel good. I took half days from work every day this week and I enjoyed those days to myself. Most days I sat down and just relaxed. I had a few job interviews scheduled so I also attended those. I am crossing my fingers that something positive comes from these interviews.

I finally got to see what it is like to work from a coffee shop. I went to George Coffee & Provision coffee shop to knock out some work and change up the scenery. I posted an Instagram photo and created some graphics on Canva to post about the book “Bad with Money”.

Good news I got invited for a final interview with a company that I am excited about. Also, my manager from my current employer reached out to me about potentially staying with the company and if she could provide any feedback as I move on to my next steps.
