Fort Worth, Texas is an overlooked travel destination, but its the perfect place to get the authentic Texas experience full with cowboys, line dancing, and culture. Ft. Worth is great for a quick weekend solo vacation because it is a slower destination and safe. To make your trip seamless, I have included must-do activities during your stay:
Best Time to Visit Fort Worth
First up, when is the best time to visit Texas? We all know Texas is notorious for being blazing hot, so it’s essential to visit at the right time to avoid overheating. The best time to come to Texas is from October through April, when temperatures are more moderate. This will ensure that you can cross off all the activities you want to do without getting too hot or dehydrated.
Transportation
There are two airports located in Dallas which are DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field. I recommend flying into DFW whether you are just visiting Ft. Worth or spliting your time between Dallas and Ft. Worth. DFW is centrally located to both areas. DFW is American Airlines hub and Dallas Love Field is the hub for Southwest. So, if you have airline status this may affect which airport you choose.
Since Texas is spread out, I also recommend renting a car to get around and save money.
Accommodations

The Sheraton located in Downtown Fort Worth is an amazing hotel option because it’s affordable and centrally located. The rooms are spacious, modern, and have a well-lit bathroom for selfies and applying your makeup easier. Some of their room come with club lounge access. which includes complimentary breakfast and unlimited access to snacks and drinks. It’s a nice touch to your stay in case you need a midnight snack or something to tie you over in the afternoon. For dinner, try their lemon pepper wings and red velvet cake at their restaurant West and Stone.
Activities to Do in Fort Worth
Fort Worth is full of great activities to do, and these are some of my favorites if you are visiting for the first time.
Water Gardens
The Water Garden is a free scenic attraction with water pools located by the Sheraton Ft. Worth Downtown Hotel. This is a great place to visit for a slower pace and to reflect.

Fort Worth Stockyards
The Stockyards is the epitome of Fort Worth with cattle drives, the rodeo, and activities such as a mechanical bull and s corn maze. This is perfect to get a little Western vibe. You can do everything here including from trying activities, food, and shopping. I recommend visiting the following places:

- Flea Style is a women’s apparel store with some amazing clothing. Plus they have a hat bar, where you can build a custom cowgirl hat which is great souvenir to take back home.
- Melt Ice Cream is a local ice cream shop to Texas and they have a seasonal ice cream menu with unique flavors you haven’t had before. The peach cobbler ice cream tastes exactly like real peach cobbler.
- Paloma Suerte is a Mexican restaurant that serves top-tier Tex-Mex. You need to try the chicken enchiladas. They are so delicious I wiped my entire plate clean.
Fuzz Lab
Fuzz Lab is a DIY art studio. They offer rug tufting, cell phone case decorating, and teddy bear painting services. The main attraction is rug tufting. For rug tufting, you find your own design online and they will outline it so you can turn it into a rug. They walk you step by step through the rug making process and its super simple. It is such a amazing experience because you can make something Texas themed to remember your trip.
7th Street
If you are looking for a night out, visit 7th Street. This is the perfect place to visit if you like bar hopping because each bar has a different vibe. I have a friend who visits 7th Street every weekend, and still has great time each time.
Billy Bobs
Billy Bobs is the largest honky tonk in the world, so you are guaranteed to have a great time. You can witness bull riding each Friday and Saturday at 8:30pm and 9:30pm. You can also participate in line dancing. And if you don’t know how to line dance, they got you covered with free lessons on:
- Tuesday – Free line dance lessons at 7:00 pm.
- Wednesday – Ladies Night! Free line dance lessons at 7:00 pm.
- Saturday – Lunch and line dance lessons at Noon!
- Line Dance lessons are free however, a daily admission ticket is required.
Sundance Square
Sundance Square is full with restaurants, performance halls, and activities. If you are looking for dinner this is a great place to find an option. They also have free events includinglive music and dance lessons that you can find here.
Museums
- Kimbell Art Museum ($18)
- Modern Art Musuem ($16)
- Amon Carter Museum of American Art (Free)
- National Cowgirl Musuem and Hall of Fame ($12)
Restaurants
Brunch

- Brewed (for brunch)
Brewed is a brunch restaurant that offers a vast variety of breakfast options including the most delicious chicken and waffles. I still think about their fried chicken ‘till this day. Plus, all their menu options are reasonable priced under $20 a meal.
- Biscuit Bar
Lunch/Dinner
- BBQ
- Texas BBQ is rave worthy. There are BBQ places on every corner in Fort Worth (just kidding), but there are many options to choose from. The two you should check out is Terry Black and Goldees. Goldees is so special that there is always a 2-3 hour wait to get your food. They are only open Friday – Sunday.
