My 21st Birthday Celebration

Turning 21 was everything and more. I expected one thing and I got another.

I just turned 21. Well, actually, I turned 21 about exactly a month ago on Sept 4th and it was amazing. I did so much. It was so different from what I initially planned and that was for the best. In the beginning, I had this extravagant idea for my 21st birthday. I mean why not, you only turn 21 once. However, that just did not work for me. It was giving me anxiety and I mean all I cared about was enjoying my birthday, so I flipped script.

My 21st Birthday Itinerary

1. Saturday, Sept. 2nd:  Belly Button Piercing

I have been wanting to get my belly button pierced since high school. It was when I turned 18, during my freshmen year in college, that I began to take the idea seriously. I had created a whole Pinterest board and everything. You can check it out here. However, though I was of legal age, my parents were against it and they were financially supporting me, so you know it was no go. Now, that I am 21 my belly button has finally gotten pierced. The piercing itself did not hurt but the after effects killed me. I did not even want to move, stretch, or anything.

2. Monday, Sept. 4th: Kaminsky's, Birthday Surprise

+ Kaminskys

This day was the most interesting because there were so many schedule changes. In my mind, I wanted this day to be super glamorous, yet relaxed. Like a real adult event in which my friends and I would go for brunch and have a couple of mismosas and things like that. It didn't happen because I do not know of any places like that and I am lazy (in all caps) so after 10 minutes of searching for a place I was over that concept. What I ended up doing was trying a dessert place in my town called Kaminskys. Best decision ever. It was delish and the cake slices were humongous but on top of that they offer alcoholic beverages like spiked coffee and stuff. It was just my kind of place.

Go to the best Desert Cafe you can find for your 21st birthday.

Oh, I forgot to mention why this day was so interesting. Well, I changed the plans and locations once. I got the meetup time wrong, so I had to change it and let my friends know. When it was time for me to go meet them, my car wouldn't turn on. Turns out, my battery was dead and I needed a new one. On top of that, my mom's battery was dead too, so I couldn't use her car. So after all of these adjustments it turned I couldn't go anywhere because I didn't have car. However, my dad came through!!! He fixed my mom's car and I was able to use that but after changing plans 50 million times, my friends bailed. Lol, not really, but sorta they had other things to do. However, it still turned out great because I still had two friends who went with me.

+ Birthday surprise

When I got home my mom and sister surprised me with the “21” balloons I had asked for. And guess what? My mom bought me my first bottle of wine. Which I will never try again. It was disgusting. To end on a good note, though, I also got some delicious cupcakes. Recently, I discovered a cupcake place near me called Cupcake Down South which I plan to try in the near future.

3. Weekend of Sept. 8-10:  Weekend in Charlotte

The best part of my birthday celebration was going to Charlotte. It was awesome to go on my first college road trip. I am thankful for being able to spend this time with two of my closest friends.

Overall, my birthday was amazing and one I will never forget.

When planning your birthday festivities remember not to stress. Things will change and won't go according to plan, but go with the flow. If you want to do something, do it and don't wait for any validation from anyone. Your birthday is time for you to celebrate all that you have accomplished in your life.

What are some things that you have planned for your upcoming birthday?
