I Am Going to be A Door Dash Driver

Last night, I signed up to be a DoorDash Driver.

The application process was really simple.

I signed up for DoorDash through Rakuten. By signing up through the Rakuten app, I will receive $50 cash back after I complete my first delivery. I am so excited to redeem this offer!

If you are interested in Door Dash, I definitely recommend signing up through Rakuten.

During the application process, they complete a background check. It took less than 30 mins for them to get my results. Shortly after, I was approved to begin Doordashing.

The Reason I Am Getting a Side Hustle

I made the decision to do Door Dash because I want extra income to participate in the  $50 investing challenge created by Invested Millennial. This gives me the excellent opportunity to start learning the ins and outs of investing alongside others.

Recently, I bought one share of AAL stock hoping it would force me to learn about the stock market. However, it didn’t. By participating in this challenge, it will hold me accountable and provide me with support as I build my investment portfolio.

Why DoorDash?

I want to use side income to fund the $50 investing challenge. The first thing that came to mind to make that amount of money was DoorDash. One of the accounts I follow on Instagram uses Instacart to make extra money and I thought that was a brillant idea. However, I don’t like grocery shopping, but picking up orders from the comfort of my car seems easy enough.

It is really important that I leave my income from my full-time job alone.  I am using that money to pay off my student loan debt, so any extra money I have goes there.

DoorDash is a better option than a part-time job because of the flexibility it offers. With DoorDash, I get to decide when and how long I want to take orders. With a part-time job, I don’t have that flexibility. My schedule is created for me and I have to follow it. I  don’t want to go through that again. I recently quit my part-time job at J.Crew Factory after working there for two years, so that I could get my weekends back and I plan to keep it that way. With DoorDash I can easily wake up and decide to Dash for as many hours as I want.

My Plan For DoorDash

I am going to develop a plan so that I can make at least $100 a month with DoorDash. This will cover gas expenses, the $50 for the investing challenge, and a little bit of money on the side. I want to make more than $11 an hour by taking orders. That is how much I was paid at my part-time job. To make delivering Door Dash orders worth it, I need to make more than that.

I am hoping that DoorDash provides me with income to participate in this investing challenge and any other business endeavors I decide to pursue.
