Recommiting to Your 2026 Goals

Every year, we create New Year’s goals to be healthier, lose weight, and exercise more. However, March is around the time that we fall off. We’ve lost motivation, fallen into our old habits, or other priorities have popped up that cause us to backslide.

This year however, we are going to show up no matter what. If you have fallen off track, that is okay. Now is the time to get back on the saddle. Consistently showing up for yourself is better than perfection.

This is the year we accomplish our goals. I don’t know about you. But I am tired of looking at my old journals and reminiscing about the things I said I would accomplish but haven’t yet not. It’s disappointing.

The good news is we still have time to turn things around. We can use the data from the first two months of the year to see what worked and didn’t.

I have broken down my wellness goals into three categories and documented what I learned and solutions to move forward.

Fitness

My goal this year was to walk 10,000 steps a day and to do some form of movement for at least 15 minutes every day.

10,000 steps a day has been all the rage on TikTok, so I decided that would be my goal. However, over the past 2 months, I realized that it is unrealistic for me to accomplish every single day. A more realistic goal for me is 5,000 steps. I accomplish this with a combination of daily activities and walking 30 minutes a day.

Working out for a minimum of 15 minutes every day is totally achievable. I set this goal intentionally because it wouldn’t make working out overwhelming for me. It actually motivates me because its such a short time frame so I can do it more consistently.

I decently achieve this goal. I realize choosing a workout method I enjoy makes me show up more. Lately, I’ve enjoyed Grow with Jo routines.

Food

I am prioritizing high protein, high-fiber diets. It been easy to follow this plan because I prioritized this diet last year. I recommend documenting your favorite meals and keeping them in rotation. It will make grocery shopping easy and reduce the thought it takes around meal prepping.

This month, I tested out Hungry Root and I am loving it. It takes the guesswork out choosing meals and I like the diversity of meals they provide.

Finances

I have ambitious goals for 2026. These goals include maxing out my HSA, Roth IRA, and paying off a decent amount of my student loans.

I am working through the goals I set because my spending has gotten out of hand. I need to see if I need to adjust my goals to allocate more discretionary spending. Or if I should buckle up and find less expensive activities and enjoyment.

This is still pending. I am not sure what to do.

To create a path forward, set aside time to review the first two months and create a path forward. This will help you determine if you keep the same goals. You might need to change them based on your current priorities or life changes.
