Hosting girl era has commenced. This is your complete guide on how to host a girl’s night.
Since I’ve moved on my own, I have wanted to host different events at my place to have a fun space to hang out with my friends.
I recently hosted Galentines with my closest group of friends and everyone had a great time. Some people even made new connections which is the best.
I am assuming if you made it to this page, you are trying to host a similar event. So, I am sharing what led to my success and things to keep in mind.
First Up: Seating
When planning my Galentines, I focused on seating first because I didn’t have a lot of seating options and I needed to figure out how to accommodate everyone. I sent invitations to all my friends to get a headcount and seven people would attend.
You may be asking how do I even have seven friends to invite over? I totally get it. When I first moved to Dallas I had to make friends from scratch. These are some of the things that helped me to meet my group of friends if you’re still trying to add to your community.
Since I had such a large group of people attending and only enough seating for four people I had to find a solution. I decided to buy an inexpensive foldable table from Walmart for $49 and 4 foldable chairs at $13 a piece to make sure everyone was comfortable.
What I like about the foldable table is you can use it for so many things in the future to get your money’s worth. It can also move with you from apartment to apartment and it’s easy to store.
2. Decorations
Now that we have the seating situated, let’s get into the fun part of decorating.
One of the focal points is the table design. When buying items, I focused on getting quality pieces that last.
- I chose a tablecloth over a plastic table cover.
The table cloth I purchased cost 5 dollars. I recommend this option because it is easy to reuse over and over again. If there is any stain or damage done to the cover, I can wash it and it will be brand new. Wal-mart has a variety of different colors at reasonable price points.
- Vases
We’ve got to get vases to hold flowers. I re-used a white vase I owned and purchased 2 red vases to go with the Galentine’s theme. The white vase holds the main centerpiece and two identical glass vases complement the centerpiece. A great way to save money is to check your local thrift store for vases or you can get inexpensive vases from Wal-mart or Amazon.
Once you have vases on hand, you won’t need to buy more.
- Plates
This is one area in which I did not buy reusable items. I saw some cute plates at Marshalls that I wanted. I layered the dinner plate I got from Marshalls with a dessert plate from Wal-mart because I liked the look it gave. It was also practical for people who don’t like different types of food to touch. . Linked above are similar plates I used. The dinner-sized plates were used for the main course of pizza and wings and dessert-sized plates to hold fruit and cupcakes.
- Wine glasses, $9.89
These are the best wine glasses for the price and they are so cute. I got similar wine glasses to these from West Elm for $13 a piece. I would recommend these Wal-mart over those any day. Also, the thrift store is a good place to look for glasses.
3. Food
- Time to choose your food. I spoke with my friends about the menu and we decided to go with pizza. I would recommend coordinating with your friends who will bring what to help with some of the cost. One of my friends brought the wine, another helped with setting up the food, and some contributed to the cost of the pizza.
These are items I purchased to give the Galentines a more put together look.
- Cupcake tower, $16.98
This cupcake tower is so cute because it can be used for fruit, candy, cake pops, and chocolate-covered strawberries. I used the top two layers for cupcakes and filled the bottom with candy. You could even possibly put little hand sandwiches on it.
- Heart-shaped tray, $17
I originally bought a heart-shaped tray from Michaels for about $3 last Valentine’s. It has stood up pretty well to be plastic. I did find this wooden board is more sturdy and can be used for Galentines, a girl’s night, or a picnic for a fruit or charcuterie board.
- Large Ice Bin, $12.94
This bin is used to store your wine and other drinks. I even made cute floral ice balls to keep the drinks chilled. Here is a tutorial I found on Pinterest.
4. Accent Pieces
I bought some cute pieces that went along with the Galentines theme for our girl’s night. I got banners to hang on the wall from Party City and bought heart-shaped balloons to use as a backdrop for photos.
Pro-tip: If you plan to use balloons regularly, you want to get a balloon pump so you don’t have to blow all the balloons by mouth.
5. Games
To tie the night together, you have to have activities.
For my girl’s night, I started with introductions among my friends since this was their first time meeting each other. Luckily, it was not awkward, and eventually, small conversations started to break out that took over the rest of the night.
However, just in case things didn’t pan out I had Uno on deck and a karaoke playlist.
